With a musical mentorship record that includes Kanye West, Rihanna, J. Cole, Jay Z has help turn several artists into platinum selling stars. It appears the Roc Nation boss is setting his eyes on a boy band member from the U.K. as his next protegé.
In an article with the Daily Star Sunday, Jay is quoted speaking about Styles. The 21-year-old vocalist is already a well known performer around the world (he has 26 million Twitter followers), but the Brooklyn born mogul thinks stepping away from 1D will be an important task.
“Harry doesn’t need any help with exposure; everybody in the world knows who he is,” said Jay. “But he does need to make the transition from being part of a group to becoming an individual artist.”
One Direction announced the group is taking a hiatus. However, Styles has not confirmed whether he will release an album as a solo act. If the England native does decide to release a project, Jay believes he can do a lot to enhance Styles’ career.
“I can get him working with the bigger artists, the biggest producers – and have him as the biggest artist in the world within a year,” added Jay.
Those words are similar to what fellow New York rapper 50 Cent said about Styles’ former One Direction partner Zayn Malik. Last year, 50 expressed interest in working with Zayn and connecting him with top Hip Hop artists.
“If Zayn wants a rap career, just because of who he is, he is going to sell records,” said 50. “But if he wants to be credible he has to be with the right people. I’d happily sign him up to my label, mentor him and have him working with the biggest rappers on the planet.”
The real question is … who wasn’t there? Jay Z was joined by Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian West, Nicki Minaj, B.o.B., Kelly Rowland, Big Sean, Calvin Harris, Kylie Minogue, HAIM, Fabolous, J Cole, Jaden and Willow Smith, Nas, Natasha Bedingfield, Nick Jonas, Miguel, Adrienne Bailon, Keke Palmer, Childish Gambino, Chris Daughtry, Arlissa, Casey Veggies, Debra Lee, Demi Lovato, Dev Hynes, Diane Warren, DJ Cassidy, DJ Drama, DJ Mustard, DJ Reflex, Elijah Blake, Elijah Kelley, Gayle King, Grimes, Hit-Boy, James Shaffer, Janelle Monae, Jeannie Mai, Jhene Aiko, Justine Skye, Kaskade, Kevin Garrett, Lauren London, LeCrae, Loni Love, Luke James, Makonnen, Mali Music, Mayaeni, Mayer Hawthorne, Meek Mill, Melanie Fiona, Michael Bolton, Naughty Boy, Nico + Vinz, Nipsey Hussle, Paris Hilton, Priyanka Chopra, Robert Kraft, Sam Dew, Santigold, Sasha and Theo Speilberg of Wardell, Sevyn Streeter, Stephen Hill, SZA, Tamera Mowry, Terrence J, V Bozeman, YG and Zane Lowe, among others.
Three Six Zero hosted the exclusive pre-Grammy brunch at a private residence in the Hollywood Hills. Guests were treated to a Comador cigar bar, and enjoyed catering by sbe events and specialty cocktails by D’USSE. Charity organization, My Intent, had an activation table at the party. The initiative invited attendees to create their own MyIntent Word bracelet, imprinting the word of their choice onto a bracelet, to remind us all there is a purpose inside each of us.
The event also marked the first time Armand de Brignac (“Ace of Spades”) Champagne was featured and served to guests with Shawn “JAY Z” Carter as the owner – early this year, he announced his purchase of the luxury spirits brand, whose gold bottle he helped make iconic in his video “Show Me What You Got.” A special bar was stationed on the main balcony, which served the Champagne exclusively to guests throughout the day.
This year’s event was sponsored by PUMA, Brooklyn Direct, CITI & Keihl’s. Ambiance, nourishment and beverages were provided by sbe Events, D’USSE, Armand de Brignac, Bacardi, Budweiser, Sparkling Ice, Aquahydrate, Comador Cigars and BLS Limos.
It’s been awhile since the last time Charlie Sheen has been in the headlines, which doesn’t feel right. The oft inebriated and rambunctious actor has been shockingly quiet and tame these past few months, which is a good thing for his personal life. However, last night he couldn’t hold back from once again speaking his mind about a fellow celebrity, this time coming after Rihanna.
According to Sheen, he and his girlfriend were out celebrating her birthday, when they were informed that songstress was also present in the restaurant. Sheen’s fiance, Scottine, requested to meet the Rihanna in hopes of getting a photo or an autograph. Well, the Umbrella singer was not able to fufill the request, which sent Charlie to twitter to express his full blown rage.
He typed a full message, calling Rihanna out for being ungrateful and a rookie at this celebrity game. At the end, he promised that one day she will be on the way down and he will be right there observing. You can check out the full transcript below:
I took my gal out to dinner
last night with her best
friends for her Bday.
we heard Rihanna was present as well.
I sent a request over to her table to introduce my fiancé
Scotty to her, as she is a
(personally I couldn’t pick her out of a line-up at gunpoint)
well, the word we received back was that there were too
many paps outside and it just wasn’t possible at this time.
At this time? AT THIS TIME??
lemme guess, we’re to reschedule another random
11 million to 1 encounter
with her some other night…?
no biggie for me; it would have been 84 interminable seconds of chugging Draino and
“please kill me now”
that I’d never get back.
My Gal, however,
was NOT OK with it.
Nice impression you
left behind, Bday or not.
Sorry we’re not KOOL enough
to warrant a blessing from
(or in this case
the Village idiot)
you see THIS is the reason
that I ALWAYS take the time.
THIS is why I’m in this thing
31 awesome years.
Good will and
common courtesy, carefully
established over time to exist radically in concert
with a code of gratitude!
I guess “Talk That Talk”
was just a big ol lie from
a big ol liar.
oh and Riahnna,
Halloween isn’t for a while.
but good on you for testing out your costume in public.
it’s close; a more muted pink might be the answer,
See ya on the way down,
(we always do)
it was a pleasure NOT
clearly we have NOTHING
in common when it comes
to respect for those who’ve
gone before you.
I’m guessing you needed those precious 84 seconds
to situate that bad wig
before you left the restaurant.
Here’s a tip from a real vet
of this terrain;
If ya don’t wanna get bothered
DONT LEAVE YOUR HOUSE!
and if this “Prison of Fame”
is soooooooo unnerving and
difficult, then QUIT, junior!
Look out for more information as the story develops, it’s definitely a strange one.

Although these year-end numbers show piracy is alive and well, BitTorrent piracy has been in decline in recent years, Musicmetric EVP Daniel Savage tells Billboard. “Previous research that we’ve done indicates that the increased availability of music via streaming is a contributing factor.” Sandvine has also seen a downward trend in BitTorrent traffic. In a report covering the first half of 2013, the networking equipment company noted that BitTorrent’s share of total daily traffic in North America had fallen to 11.1% from 18.9% in the second half of 2011.
Musicmetric’s numbers represent albums and tracks downloaded using BitTorrent, a protocol for peer-to-peer file sharing that enables the transfer of large files. The company says a typical breakdown of BitTorrent traffic for musicians is 70% albums and 30% tracks. While piracy is rampant on BitTorrent, it’s worth noting that not all music traded using BitTorrent is pirated. Some artists, notably Death Grips and Pretty Lights, make their music available for free using BitTorrent.
We spoke to MM Satish, Piracy crusader and founder of I Hate Fake. He made it pretty clear that the problem has become a major issue and doesn’t only stop in Entertainment but in consumable products that we may not know we purchasing.
